Walnut Creek Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Silva officially announces reelection campaign

By Elisabeth Nardi — Contra Costa Times — July 18, 2010

Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Silva officially announced Tuesday she intends to run for re-election in November for a second four-year City Council term.

If re-elected, Silva would be next in line to serve as the city's mayor.

"It has been an honor to serve as a City Council member the past four years, " Silva said in a statement. "We have accomplished a lot, including the opening of the new Walnut Creek Library on time and significantly under budget, preservation of additional open space lands, downtown parking improvements and the grass roots effort of 'Yes for Walnut Creek' to support Broadway Plaza and our economic future."

Silva is endorsed by fellow council members, former Mayors Kathy Hicks, Gwen Regalia and Charlie Abrams.

In addition to working on the private fundraising for the new library and the "Yes for Walnut Creek" campaign, Silva says she is particularly proud of her work to improve the council's community outreach efforts. She championed the establishment of the Council's booths at the downtown and Rossmoor Farmers Markets and for the 2009 Community Conversations program. She also has served as one of two council liaisons to Rossmoor for the past two years.

Silva is also chair of TRANSPAC, the regional transportation planning committee for Central Contra Costa.

Prior to her election to the City Council, Silva was a member of the Planning Commission.

"Of course, these are critical times and there's Advertisement still more work to do, " said Silva in the release. "I believe Walnut Creek needs proven, innovative leadership, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the community to applying my energy and experience to navigate the challenges we face."
