Candidate Statement
(from 2006)
I love Walnut Creek and ask for your support so I may give back to this community the energy and experience I have gained over the last 22 years in this wonderful city as a parent, community volunteer and business consultant. My husband and I moved here so we could raise our family in a place with excellent neighborhoods and schools, recreation and youth programs, arts and cultural activities, and open spaces.
I have worked as a volunteer to enrich our community's quality of life — as President of the Las Lomas PTSA, Co-Chair of the Measure R library campaign, a Director of the Walnut Creek Education Foundation, President of the Walnut Creek Swim Conference, Fields Director for Walnut Creek Soccer, and Scholarship Chairman of the Fountain for Youth Foundation and by working to provide our schools with essential local funding. This dedication has given me a strong understanding of our local values and the challenges we face in the future — an understanding I have used successfully for two years as a Walnut Creek Planning Commissioner.
As a City Council member, I will apply my experience and bring new energy to the challenges we must face together — to improving our quality of life, keeping our local schools among the best in the state, building the new downtown library we need, preserving the unique character of our local neighborhoods, and enhancing our parks, creeks and open spaces. I have the business experience needed to maintain the City's fiscal health, to sustain the economic vitality of our traditional downtown while preserving its historic character, and to support local business while seeking solutions that manage growth and traffic.
I ask for your vote and support so that together, we can celebrate our past, embrace the present, and create an even brighter future for Walnut Creek.
